Michigan Window Tint Law
What You Need To Know

The Michigan Window Tint law enacted in year 2000 established rules and guidelines on how dark window tint on vehicles can be. Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Michigan, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

  • Windshield: Non-reflective tint allowed on top 4 inches of windshield.
  • Front Side Windows: Darkest part of tint allowed 4" inches from the top of the window.
  • Back Side Windows: Any darkness can be used.
  • Rear Window: Any darkness can be used.
